Desde el año 2008 empecé con esta gran serie THE MEMORY REMAINS de obra gráfica, en la que hago una narración de recuerdos individuales y subjetivos de mi persona, de familiares y amigos, pasándolos por el filtro de lo estético y asignándoles un contexto diferente, además de otorgarles una nueva significación. Trabajo buscando reinterpretarlas y hacerlas mías a modo de cita visual.
Me baso en la investigación que lleva a cabo el neuropsicólogo Daniel Schacter. Esta gira en torno al hecho de que nuestra memoria en ocasiones no es infalible y parece engañarnos, cuando en realidad lo que hace es sintetizar el significado general de la experiencia para darle un sentido a lo que nos ha sucedido. Es decir, la memoria no es infinita tanto en tanto en cuanto no puede almacenar todas nuestras experiencias y conocimientos porque se colapsaría. De este modo elimina lo que no considera importante.
El cerebro se toma la libertad de completar e inventar recuerdos para dar coherencia al pasado, y en definitiva, a nuestra existencia ¿por qué yo no puedo hacer eso mismo de manera consciente?.
Me sirvo de estos “vacios” que deja el olvido y los completo en ocasiones, con los recuerdos del imaginario colectivo de los mass-media, o con antropomorfismos imposibles, etc. Dando como resultado un volúmen de obra gráfica bastante importante.
From 2008 I started with this great series of graphic work THE MEMORY REMAINS,in which I make a narration of individual and subjective memories of myself, family and friends, putting them through an aesthetic filter, apart from giving them a new meaning. I develop my work looking for re-interpret them and make them mind as a kind of visual quote.
I base my work on investigation that develops the neuropsychologist Daniel Schacter. It revolves around the fact that our memory sometimes it isn’t infallible and seems to deceive us, when what it actually does is summarize the general meaning of the experience and to give it some sense to what happened to us. That is, memory is not endless as it isn’t able to keep all of our experiences and knowledge because it would come to a standstill. That way, it removes what it considers unimportant.
The brain takes the liberty of completing and creating new memories to give coherence to the past, and in short, to our existence; why I can’t do that consciously?
I make use of these “voids” that the oblivion leaves and I complete them, sometimes with the memories of collective imagination of mass-media, or other times with impossible anthropomorphisms, etc. All that, gives as a result a great volume of graphic work.
